THE CHALLENGE

Odeon are the largest group of cinemas in Europe operating across 12 countries. However like many entertainment businesses they had to completely cease their operations at speed as COVID-19 hit. Months of work followed behind the scenes to implement shifting Government guidelines preparing hygiene, sanitation and social distancing measures throughout the whole customer journey. It’s not often we get a one-line brief from a client – but this is what it said ‘Winning the trust of the cinema-going public is at stake’. Oh and we need to move crazy fast (and with total confidentially as this is an extremely sensitive subject). Lights, camera….animation!

THE SOLUTION

Knowing that the public are being bombarded by similar safety messages, we felt the pressure to make something stand out and dare we say it ‘filmic’– there’s only so many films of people looking miserable in masks we could bear and they are not for us. Odeon are understandably passionate about film (as are we it’s fair to say), so we reckoned this needed to pay homage to some classic movie moments using a negative space illustration style (can you spot all 17 nods?) oh, and work across territories, languages and different brand colours across the business. A result only possible with continuous and close cooperation across the Juice team and a dedicated, engaged client.

WE DELIVERED

A 60 second animation for all social platforms as well as website and CRM. They loved it so much we were asked to create a second version for in-cinema use – you’ll now see it played before every film the group shows and it’s officially the first Juice Cinema ad! With both versions being translated into 10 languages for European use it’s next stop The Oscars. Maybe.
